As a result of the war in Syria, Mario’s parents had to flee and leave their house after it was completely destroyed. Displaced inside of Syria, they ended up living in tents on the Lebanese-Syrian borders. Mario’s mother was pregnant with him at the time, and she had to deliver inside of the camp where no medical assistance was available. Due to that, they faced complications during the delivery, and he sustained an injury to his shoulder, specifically to his brachial plexus. They made it to Lebanon, and Mario, now 2 years old, is suffering from severe disfunction in his shoulder as his nerves are hit and he can’t move his shoulder and arm normally. He needs to undergo a reconstructive surgery for his shoulder. He might need another surgery afterwards, but this will depend on the results of the first surgery.
